What is Abuse?
The government definition of abuse (as stated in the ‘No Secrets’ document issued
in 2000 by the Department of Health); is quite simply ‘A violation of an individual’s
human and civil rights by another person or persons.’
Action on Elder Abuse uses the following definition; ‘a single or repeated act or lack
of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation
of trust, which causes harm or distress’.
